South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club to work with GJW Direct Insurance
scyc sailing news

South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club (“SCYC”), the premier sailing venue in North Wales, and GJW Direct Insurance (“GJW”), the UK’s largest direct boat insurers, are excited to announce that they have just embarked upon strategic marketing arrangement.

GJW will support the Club’s sailing programme throughout the 2012 season and beyond and they will become the major sponsor of Abersoch Dinghy Week.

GJW offers one of the most comprehensive boat insurance policies on the market, at a very competitive price. Whether you are looking to insure a yacht, a powerboat or a jet ski, they have boat insurance cover to suit. They are the largest Direct Boat Insurers in the UK meaning that when you insure your boat with them you can be confident that you are dealing with specialists.

GJW have recently introduced an all-inclusive Dinghy Insurance Policy, where everything is included as standard, including full racing risk cover, new for old on all parts, personal possession and kit bag cover and much more.

With GJW if you ever have to make a claim you’ll find their 24/7, 365 days a year, staffed Claims Helpline offers sound practical advice whenever you call and when it comes to claims settlement, their reputation is second to none. That’s not all, with GJW, on most policies there are lots of additional benefits at no extra cost such as free legal protection, free personal accident and medical expenses, and a free protected no claims bonus. There’s the option of immediate cover too, if you need it.

GJW have nominated one named underwriter, Alex, from their team for SCYC members to contact if they want an insurance quote. SCYC members are encouraged to make contact and at least check-out their current premiums as GJW will endeavour to give us as members the best possible deal and offer a personal service to us.

Squib News

Good Morning Members

There were 61 Squibs at the Nationals last week at Royal Western Yacht Club in Plymouth, of which 13 were from SCYC - another great turn out by our club. Racing was scheduled for 6 races over 6 days but in the end the 6 races were completed over 5 days with a wet and windless Monday on the shore. Chris and Mark Hogan started as they meant to go on winning 3 of the 6 races eventually sealing the Champs on the last day. Mike and James Budd were ultra consistent and finished second overall. Alan Johnson and Dave Garlick & Dave Best and Steve Allso were never far from the front. The new partnership of Malcolm Blackburn and Dave Shiel even managed a guest appearance at the front winning race 2. The weather was great, SCYC had 5 in the top 10, the club was incredibly hospitable and SCYC were really made to feel welcome. The fleet moves on to the Royal Dart YC in 2012. Final results were:

1st Chris and Mark Hogan in ‘Ricoshea’, 1,8,5,1,(13),1, 16pts
2nd Mike and James Budd in ‘Harry II’, (8),7,4,5,6,3, 25pts
3rd Alan Johnson and Dave Garlick in ‘Nimbus’, 6,(14),2,2,10,6, 26pts
4th Dave Best and Steve Allso in ‘Crossfire’, 7,6,1,6,(18),7, 27pts
5th Micky Wright and Chris Dunn in ‘Spoof’, 10,4,3,8,2,(12), 27pts
6th Malcolm Hutchings and Andy Ramsey in ‘Lady Penelope’, 2,2,12,4,8,(14), 28pts
7th Mike Probert and James Bryer in ‘Pani Munta’, 3,13,7,3,(19),5, 31pts
8th Malcolm Blackburn and Dave Shiel in ‘Moonstone’, 5,1,15,17,(26),8, 46pts
9th Bryan and Jenny Riley in‘Brimstone’, 12,(34),13,9,11,3, 47pts

Commodore’s Update Spring 2011

Executive Summary

Easter came and went in the blink of an eye. The sailing season started with the Squibs on Good Friday, we had 2 great Fitting Out Suppers over Easter on Saturday and Sunday and we held the Annual General Meeting on the Sunday evening of Easter. A new range of hoodies has been received, plans for the Dragon Northerns and Dragon Edinburgh Cup have reached the mature stage, a new lease with the landlord has been signed and the hunt is now off for a replacement for Ian (Sammo) Jones. The working party scheduled for the 27 April worked well and we will have Sue Duffy back and James Bowen in the office for the busy 6 weeks in the summer. Since the last Commodore’s Update the Council held meetings in February, March, April and May.
